Pre-Existing Conditions (Including Bunions) Are a Thing of the Past

Affordable-Care-Act-bunions

Not long ago, bunions could be used as a reason to be dropped from health insurance – or at least, they could be exempt from coverage in your plan, considered a pre-existing condition.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, also known as ACA or Obamacare, bunions can no longer be considered an “uninsurable condition”. Effective January 1, 2014, bunions can no longer be used as a reason to be denied coverage, to be dropped from coverage or as an exception from health care coverage.

In addition to repeat surgeries or doctor visits for your pre-existing bunions, bunion sufferers may elect to try alternative treatments such as the Bunion Bootie, a revolutionary splint for the treatment of bunions.

Recent feedback from Tammy, a medical professional and teacher, confirms that Bunion Bootie is an effective tool to relieve symptoms due to bunions. It has a successful design that may reduce deformity and/or prevent progression.

“I teach and I tell students about the Bunion Bootie,” Tammy said. “My classes are made up of nurses and PSWs interested in Foot Care. I think this is fantastic for them to know about, as some of their patients will have Hallux Valguses. It is very comfortable to wear. I felt a small bit of tension [initially] but it was not unbearable. Now I wear day and night”.

Hallux valgus, the official name for bunions, results from the dysfunction or deformity of a part of the foot called the “first ray,” which consists of the first metatarsal and first cuneiform bones. Foot structure plays a major role in the prevalence of these conditions, and treatment typically focuses on improving and adjusting joint position and biomechanics. Obamacare has now made treating bunions more accessible by removing any bias to pre-existing conditions. Instead of surgery, treating bunions with Bunion Bootie may be the answer.

Unlike hard bunion splints, toe spacers and bunion pads, Bunion Booties can be worn comfortably and with ease in almost any shoe. It stays in place and provides all-day relief from the rubbing and irritation caused by bunions.

Other medical professionals have determined that, utilized on its own or in combination with other therapies and/or custom foot orthotics, Bunion Bootie can facilitate re-alignment of the foot and first ray function. Findings on the use of Bunion Bootie with these medical clients include:

  • Provision of a low profile that fits in any shoe
  • Easy application by patients
  • Extreme comfort, because it doesn’t compress the first MTP joint
  • Addressing both the longitudinal and transverse arch issues, where first ray dysfunction and deformity originate
  • Support for both the joint and the foot, providing a potential proprioceptive benefit.

Practicing pedorthists who stock Bunion Booties in their clinics have also reported positive feedback from their clients: “A significant percentage of our clients have a foot dysfunction that results in deviation of the big toe. We are extremely impressed with the Bunion Bootie as it actually addresses the biomechanics of the problem. We have found them extremely effective as they are comfortable, easy to apply, very low-profile and versatile. Our clients report improved comfort immediately and provide feedback such as, ‘Feels secure,’ ‘I can push off through my big toe,’ ‘I feel more stable’ and ‘My toe hurts less immediately.”

Bunion Bootie, established in 2011 by a small group of bunion sufferers who came together in search for an effective non-surgical treatment for bunions, is the perfect answer for people who must stay on their feet for prolonged periods. Office professionals, shift workers, athletes and users worldwide have discovered Bunion Bootie. Bunion irritation, if left untreated, can result in blisters, swelling, tenderness and bursitis. At only 0.4mm thick, Bunion Booties fit comfortably in almost any shoe (including high heels and running shoes), and it is made with odor- and bacteria-resistant materials.

The Affordable Care Act has made treatment of pre-existing bunions a much easier task. Talk with your doctor about using the alternative treatment method of a Bunion Bootie, and discuss the possibility of billing your insurance company for its purchase. Discounts are available for purchases of more than one Bunion Bootie and can be found on the website.
